Online Graduate Nursing Guide

This guide is to support students enrolled in the online masters program through the Wegmans School of Nursing

What is Interlibrary Loan? Why should I use it?

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Lavery Library will obtain articles, book chapters, and books for your research needs even if we don't have immediate access to those items. This service is called Interlibrary Loan (ILL).  There is no additional fee for this service, and there are no limits on the number of your requests.  Articles and book chapters will be available as PDFs online, and books could either be available as an ebook, or a physical book can be mailed to your residence.

Why should I use Interlibrary Loan?

This service is included in your program tuition.  Don't artificially limit your results to just things available for free online.  A lot of information that you will need to complete your assignments in this program will be accessed through Library subscription resources.  Don't pay for long or short-term access to articles yourself. It is the responsibility of the library to help you access information you need to be successful in your program.

Create Your Interlibrary Loan Account

When you're creating your ILL account you want to be sure to select the appropriate status. Take a look at the image below as a quick reference for which student status you should select while creating your Interlibrary Loan account.

If you are unable to complete your Interlibrary Loan sign-up please try again shortly before your classes begin.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to get my items?

On average, articles will be delivered to your Fisher email within 24-48 hours. Books that Fisher owns will be delivered to your address in 3-4 business days. Books that Fisher does not own should arrive within 5-7 business days. You will receive a message in your Fisher email when the book is on its way.

How do I send them back?

Returns are easy! Items will be shipped to you in a box or padded mailer. A pre-paid return shipping label will be sent to you via email.

  • Keep all packaging! – You will use this to return all materials to Fisher’s Lavery Library
  • Print return shipping label from email that was sent when the item shipped.
  • Place borrowed items into box or padded mailer (If Hardcover, use box. If paperback, use padded mailer).
  • Make sure the package is sealed.  Be sure padded mailer is securely closed to avoid loss or damages during shipping.
  • Drop off to FedEx pickup store/location (or UPS if UPS label is provided).

Need a new pre-paid return label? Send us an email at ill@sjf.edu and we can email you a new one to print and attach!

What if I lose my pre-paid return label?

If you lose your label, please send an email to ill@sjf.edu. We can email you a new label to print and attach to the package.

Policies

Damaged Items

If an item borrowed through ILL is damaged and the lending library (Lavery Library or another institution) determines that a damage fee or replacement charge is necessary, the damage/replacement fee will be passed on to the patron’s Fisher account. Bills over $10 will result in a hold on the student’s account, which prohibits the student from registering and receiving grades, and must be paid in full in order to be removed.

Very Overdue and Lost Items

If an item is lost or kept so far past the due date that the lending library assumes it is lost, the student is responsible for the replacement charge as determined by the lending library. Bills over $10 will result in a hold on the student’s Fisher account, which prohibits the student from registering and receiving grades. These bills must paid in full in order for the hold to be removed. Students may also be blocked from further Interlibrary Loan use until the bill has been paid.

Renewing Materials

To renew your materials, please send an email to ill@sjf.edu with the Title and Author of each item you need renewed. ILL Staff will process the renewal of your request for you and respond within 1 business day. All renewal requests must be approved by the library that sent us the book. If the lending library denies the renewal, you will be notified via email and asked to return the book to St. John Fisher University.

To safeguard your privacy, your ILL requests are deleted from our system after five (5) years.
