Use this guide to gather information and critiques of various tests in psychology, counseling, education or human relations.

Using tools

Using Measurement Tools ethically

Once you find and obtain a measurement tool, you'll want to make sure you're using it ethically. Making sure you obtain permissions from the creator(s) of the tool is only part of using a measurement tool ethically; you will also want to make sure you have administration and scoring directions before using the tool for your own research.

To obtain permission from the creator(s) of the tool, reach out to the creator using the provided contact information. Creators want to ensure that their tools will be used ethically and appropriately. In order to assist them in deciding to grant you permission to use their tool, provide the following information in your request:

  • Your name and contact information
  • Brief summary of your research interest (why would you like to use their measurement tool?)
  • Acknowledgement that you will cite their work
