Learning Objectives, Children's Literature

Through this library session, students will learn to:

explain picture books as a format of literature within children’s literature
list a variety of genres within the format of picture books
interpret differences between a variety of children’s picture books based on the discussed pieces of literature
evaluate sources (i.e. picture books) based on suitability for an information need
visualize the use of picture books in lesson plans and in a classroom
describe the ecosystem of children’s book awards, including the main audience and the different qualifications to win

Teaching resources to accompany books, including engagement tools like video, audio, discussion guides, author Q&As, and more.
TeachingBooks.net is a website that adds a multimedia dimension to the reading experiences of children's and young adult books. The online database includes thousands of resources about fiction and nonfiction books used in the K-12 environment, with every resource selected to encourage the integration of multimedia author and book materials into reading and library activities.
