BacMap is a collection of annotated bacterial genomes from almost 2000 bacterial species. The database allows for the visualization of the genome as well as the identification of protein, tRNA, and rRNA coding genes along with prophage sites in the genome. Each entry gives information on the source of the information (i.e chromosomal or plasmid DNA), taxonomy of the species, morphological information, preferred environmental conditions, pathogenicity, and metabolic pathways. Entries also provide links to external sources which contain additional information on the bacterium. The database is searchable based on a wide array of criteria ranging from the type of organism (Bacteria vs Archaea), cell shape, oxygen requirements, temperature requirements, ect
